Odds and Ends

Hey everybody! Happy Tuesday! It is so cold here in Michigan - the flurries are flying right now and we still have snow on the ground in many areas. I, like everyone else I know, will be so glad when Spring finally gets here. We have had snow on Easter in past years - I can remember more than a few egg hunts where Matt and Ty were traipsing through the snow to find eggs. Lime green eggs don't hide nearly so well in snow as they do in new, Spring grass!

Today, I actually had some time to stitch at lunch and wouldn't you know - I forgot my stitching bag at home. I talked Julie into running over to our NSLLNS (not so local local needlework store) and a two hour lunch later - this is what I came home with.

Oh, this is not even what I ran to the NSLLNS to get - I went there to get some more floss for Lizzy but found this stuff too! I've been wanting to get this issue of S&NQ because Jennifer Core has a great article about Tennessee samplers in it and there's even a wonderful chart of a Little Dog Sampler called the 1831 Sarah Harriet Stephenson Sampler. This is a sampler found in Middle Tennessee; I'm originally from East Tennessee but I'd really love to add this to my sampler collection one of these days.

You will notice that I added another chart from The Primitive Needle to my collection. Love, love, love Lisa's charts! When I'll do these isn't the important question! The important question is, why did I wait so long? I wish I stitched faster ('course if I'd get off this computer, that'd help)!
I also added the LHN From Sea to Shining Sea (Sea2Sea) charts as well (the first two, anyway). I fell in love with these when they first came out thinking they'd be perfect for my office. Watching Sabine
stitch this - I finally gave in. But, I was initially put off, and still am somewhat, about the way these are priced. By the time you buy each and every chart, you've invested a lot of money. The main problem I have with this is the chart is not much to speak of - the paper it's printed on is nothing special. You do get the silks but only enough to stitch with one thread over 2 on 32 count linen. It looks to me like the pricing on this could have been a lot better - why not throw in the border chart, at the very least? Am I the only one that's annoyed by this kind of pricing? I don't mean to rant, and I did cave and buy them in the end, but I just don't think the pricing is exactly fair on these. So, what is a girl to do but this: When I'm done, I'll be giving them away as a group - maybe a little drawing here. Don't hold your breath for that though - this'll take me a while to stitch and buy each house chart! Okay, I'm done ranting!
I also bought some fabric to stitch Sea2Sea on, 32 count lambswool - 'course that was before I realized I'd only get enough floss to stitch this with one thread - ARGH!!!! Oh, wait, I said I was done ranting......
I also added a lovely little La-D_Da chart to my stash that I'd like to stitch for us one day. This looked like a good traveling piece so next time we go to Virginia, maybe I'll take it. You can see it HERE Isn't it cute!?

What else, the floor's still not done - won't be done this weekend, I'm afraid either. However, I did get some painting done - nope, not the floor but this little cabinet:

It used to look like this:

I love how it turned out! I've got the blues 'cause I'm not getting much stitching done but I've also got a case of the "reds" apparently!

This is my miniscule progress on Lizzy - not much, as you can tell but it'll get done eventually.

That's it for now! Thanks for stopping by and for all your wonderful comments! Have a great week and a lovely Easter!
Peace,
Terri

Lizzy's looking fine, and your little red cabinet is too cute. You're definitely going through a red stage, but it looks so good.

I congratulated myself that I recognized the lambswool fabric before you told us what it was ... it's my favorite, but in 40-count. The fact that I recognized it makes me a little scared. :)

Terri, the first thing I thought when I saw that fabric on the ground was -- I hope that's not outside! lol! I love your stash! And I love what you did with that cabinet too -- gorgeous! I do hope you get back to stitching soon and your room's floor gets all painted too!

Okay, before I forget, who does the song "If I Needed You" on your music list? It is beautiful! You're right, Adam was the winner on Idol tonight. Can't wait to meet you at the show this week, it will be so much fun. Maybe the snow will be OVER by then! Your cabinet looks great. Dawn

I love your stash! A two hour lunch, I could do a lot of damage at the LNS. Your cabinet turned out great. Red is my favorite color.

Love your new stash. Great thing to do during lunch time. Such an opportunity would be very dangerous for me, too, lol.
I love your little red cabinet. I'm always with red.
Nice progress on Elizabeth!

Great job on the cabinet, and well done on the stash acquisition. I fully agree with your rant - if I ever did this series (which I probably won't, though I agree it's very cute) I would probably just get the house blocks and leave off the border altogether.

Love the newly painted cabinet, Terri! You are so creative. :)

Great new stash enhancement! I agree with you on Lisa's designs. I love everything that she puts out!

The LHN charts... I absolutely agree with you. Plus, IMHO, so many of the designs are houses and oddly shaped people. Very cute, and that's great that she sells so many similar designs, but I think the pricing could be a bit better. I think the pricing on the fruit charts is a bit more feasible, because at least you get a full skein which can be used to build up your stash.

Stash shopping isn't that the best thing to spend your lunch break....
Your cabinet is lovely. All of the Primitive Needle charts are great. It is so difficult to decide what to order first. I ordered some as well.... :)And you made a good progress on Lizzy.

Hope you have a lovely Easter. I love what you bought it is really great and some of them I have already along with this terrible addiction for buying more stash when I need nothing and I mean nothing. I have so much. Just think can't you eat chocolate again soon? Your mojo will come back soon of this I'm sure. When mine went away I just keep on buying instead of stitching. Now I'm stitching I'm glad to say. Lots of Love Patti xxx

Terri I adore your newly red-dressed cabinet!!! Amazing how a bit of paint can add so much to a tired piece! Glad you got to spend lunch at your LNS, and I love how your Lizzy is coming together!!

Ranting is good...I think everyone agrees with this for often then they say aloud!:)

Your red cabinet is great! You're going to have to give me some painting lessons soon because I'm definitely not very good at the painting aspect of things. Lizzie is looking great - steady is as steady goes. I agree with you too on those charts - I felt the same way with the Drawn Thread Sampler of Stitches ones. You would think for the amount of money you paid, you would get something free!!! All your stash looks great. Love the Primitive Needle one.

Love your little red cabinet, Terri! What a difference from before.

How lucky you are to have even a NSLNL by your work. If I did, I would weigh a lot less 'cause I would be browsing there instead of eating! LOL

Enjoy your new treasure!

Terri - I agree with your rant but I fell for this design when it first came out - Lois at ES offered free fabric with the set so I felt I could justify the monthly - Have i taken a single stitch NOOOOOO - but I have it. I changed my fabric to 36ct clay. I am doing my first Primitive Needle design - the A&E - LOVE IT ! lots of oldy mouldy greens - just my thing - have a lovely Easter with NO SNOW! Mel

Lovely stash!

The cupboard you painted looks wonderful, such a neat little piece. And Lizzy is looking very pink and pretty, nice progress!

Terri, you wouldn't believe it, but your friend bought the red tool carrier today! (But I do have other great ones too.) We did get more goodies in at the end of the day today, so I hope you are pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to meet you! Dawn

Terri, I agree with your rant, but let me tell you, there is enough silk in each package that you can either stitch with two strands or do the charts twice. Seriously! I can't believe just how much silk is left over.

Your cabinet looks lovely painted that gorgeous red--I so wish I did a better job painting. Also loved that little cabinet on top--is that antique? Looks like it would be perfect to hold balls of perle cotton and the colors would show through the windows.

Love your stash choices--I've just got to get some of those primitives.
