I am Seeing RED!

I am seeing RED ~ in good ways and bad! First the good red! My craft room floor is done! The corners matched up and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Here's a quick pick of the floor.

I'll post a picture of the whole thing in the next few days after I get everything loaded back in there.

Next, I finished up the little BBD freebie/contest chart (I feel my mojo coming back!). The rules said you had to add a bird (I hope two birds are okay, and add a family name). I made mine a tribute to my Mamaw who was my mother's mom. She was a beautiful woman, with dark hair and dark eyes from East Tennessee. She had a hard life; she raised 5 kids, had a husband who could be abusive and she died young ~ in her mid 50's. I changed the sampler a bit because I wanted to include her birth year but keeping true to the original, I had her stitch this when she was 9 years old. I added the two blackbirds (from another BBD pattern; Where My Heart Blooms) because I liked the way they balanced the piece and I loved how the black popped against the reds. I stitched this on 30 Count R&R, Korty's Special Blend using NPI Light, Medium and Dark Clove. I stitched the last two letters of Henderson over one so it would fit on that line and I also stitched the birds over one as well. Thanks Barb and Alma; I love this little chart!

Thanks to all my new prim blog friends, I'm searching out the thrift stores with a new eye. Here are a couple of things I found today that I intend to paint and prim up. I'll show you the finished products when I post pics of my loaded (overloaded, really) craft room. The little book/drawer stand was $7 and the note pad holder was $2.

And now the reason I'm seeing RED in a not so good way..... if any of you have ever looked at my photo album on the right side of my blog you will see that I have had quite a few things framed. On Tuesday, Sue (my framer) called to tell me that the store she works in is CLOSING! Oh NO!!! They were all told on Monday night and she called me on Tuesday to let me know. I can't even give her the little BBD piece I just finished and I was SO looking forward to picking out the perfect frame for Elizabeth Savilles. Yes, there are other places that frame things but nobody had the frame selection Sue carried. I am sick. I am mostly sick about all the gals that are now out of a job. Sue, Andrea, Erin, Helen and all the others that work there are so wonderful and I feel so badly for them. This is a shop where they knew me by name and were always friendly and helpful. My husband could always go in there and they'd help him find the perfect gift (usually a bead for my Troll Bead bracelet). My husband thought that I was single handedly keeping them in business but apparently not. I'm not sure now what will happen to the cute downtown in which this store was located and not sure at all what I'll do for framing.......

It's a beautiful day here in SE Michigan - it's time to get outside! Have a glorious weekend!

Peace,
Terri

It's a beutiful day here in Michigan and I must get back outside. Have a great weekend everyone!

Terri, your floor looks amazing!! Can't wait to see the finished area with everything back in it. You got some good finds at the thrift store. I ,also do the thrift store thing. I'm always looking for the wood items...no matter how ugly they may be. They always look like a million bucks after you prim them up. Have a wonderful weekend. Sorry to hear about your frame shop. It was nice of them to give you a "heads up" about them closing.

Dang, Terri! What a bummer on your framer closing! My heart goes out to these people that will be out of work and you of course, cuz I know she did a great job and had a super wonderful molding selection!! Will be keeping good thoughts that another framer helps fill her shoes for you!

I love your rendition, love the blackbirds, it is just perfect!!

Your floor is to die for, GF!! Gosh I love it and so happy to hear it turned out great for you! Can't wait to see what you do with your 'finds' and seeing your room all put back together again!

I love how you did the BBD freebie. I am so sorry about your framing shop closing that really sucks. Maybe she will frame from somewhere else? My dh used to do it from home but not anymore. Ask her to give you the heads up if she goes anywhere else. Your floor looks just perfect. Lots of Love and have a great weekend Patti xxx

First of all. Great floor! I think it turned out fantastic, and you can tell that you really have great attention to detail, as it looks perfect.
I love the blackbird piece. It looks so cute with the black crows on there. I also like that you personalized with your family names.

So sorry to hear that your frame shop is closing. I would absolutely die if my framer closed down! It is the sign of the economy I'm afraid.
Hope you can find a new place to go.

Wow! Love your floor!!!! Gorgeous! And your framer and LNS -- OMG -- I'm so bummed for you! And for the rest of us who love to see your framed pieces! Oh no! I hope you find a solution for yourself. And I feel so badly for the framer and the people who work there. :(

Wow! Your floor looks awesome! Can't wait to see pictures with all your stuff back in place. I'll see what I can do about getting a black one for you, but I'm not sure they come with holes in the sides. I will inquire though. It would be fun if you came up early, but we might not have food and everything out until after 5:00. I would give you the same specials that we will have in the evening though. I'll let you know what I find out about the noodle board. It will be so much fun to see you again! Dawn

Hi Terri,
Love your floor...it looks awesome!! Sorry to hear that your favorite framing shop is closing. I know how you feel...my sewing machine store is closing. I've been going they for 16 years, but between father and son...they were open for 50 years. It is such a bummer when of our favorite shops are closing.
Great thrift shop finds! Nice to see that us TS junkies are wearing off on you. LOL...

Oh boy your floor is gorgeous and (yay!) the corners match up perfectly. Well done Terri!! I hate to hear that your framer is closing though. You have gotten some amazing frames from them. BTW your BBD freebie is so cute. I love how the birds just 'pop' on it (and they're over one... great touch)!!

Your floor is perfect! Your BBD piece is wonderful too.

Sorry about your frame shop, I can't even imagine how disappointing it is to know it's closing.

Your floor looks great Terri. I'm sure that was lots of hard work to do the taping then painting within the lines!

That's too bad about your framer. I totally understand your dilemma and that's very sad about the other framers losing their jobs.

I like the BBD design that you are stitching. Have a happy stitching weekend!

Oh my gosh Terri - your floor came out fantastic (not that I didn't think it would!), but it looks wonderful. Have you been able to find a rug to go in there yet? Isn't it funny how so many of us have stitched that BBD piece. But it's great. I should have put my Grandma's name into mine too, but I didn't! And great thrift shop finds. The few we have around my area never seem to have much stuff in them! And that is really too bad about the frame shop. I've wanted to get over there and have at least one done by them. It's so depressing to hear about that happening! Hopefully you'll be able to find another one close by - I know there are some in the area - hopefully there will be one that will carry the nice variety of frames! Can't wait to see what you start stitching now that your mojo is back!

You did a perfect job on your floor! It looks so great.

Your BBD sampler is beautiful. There are so many of us who are having fun with that one.

Sad, sad about your framer. Seems to be happening everywhere.

WOW! Your new coloured floor looks awesome. You did a fantastic job. Your thrift store finds look awesome. Do you by any chance have a link to a tutorial how to prim stuff up? I would love to try it myself....
Your Blackbird freebie looks great. The birdies are so cute and what a fantastic idea to stitch the last two letters over one.
Hope you'll find another good frameshop....it is really too bad that they are closing :(

Terri your BBD is very sweet - love the colors you picked and the personalization to your dear grandmother is so touching. I was going to stitch my grandmothers name on mine too but of course I have not gotten around to stitching it yet.

So sorry about your frame shop - so many nice privately owned businesses can not withstand the economic down turn - where will it all end - so very sad. Melody

Your floor looks amazing! I totally want to do this! Your BBD freebie looks magnificent as well. I am still stitching on mine, well I would be if I had done any stitching lately. That stinks about your framer!!!
