Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

I am all about RECYCLING! I worry about the state the planet will be in when my kids have kids and we, as a family, try to recycle as much as we possibly can. This post will not be a lecture on recycling though so breathe easy. I do want to share with you why those words are so apropos today.

First, my stitching time has been REDUCED significantly of late. First, it was getting my room finished. Finally finishing it has helped some but still, stitching production has been greatly REDUCED. All I have to show you is this little bitty square from my PS monthly stitch-a-long with Julie. It is being stitched over one so it is small and I think when it's done, it'll be oh so cute.

I am afraid that as the weather continues to warm up and the time I want to be outside increases, my stitching time will be REDUCED even more.

Remember I told you that my local frame shop was closing? With the store closing, everything was on sale so I asked if they were selling the various fixtures throughout the store. The answer was yes but they weren't sure how much everything would be. I told them I was interested in the Yankee Candle display. Well.... turns out they were selling it for a mere, hold onto your hat, $25!! Yep, that's right, $25!!! Oh yeah, I want one of those!!! I have an old entertainment center in my family room that Rob and I have had since we got married. It's lived way past it's prime and it's time to REDUCE my home of that ugly thing and bring in something "new". Thanks to all my new Prim Blogging friends, I knew I could repaint, distess and use this as a new entertainment center. It is the perfect size to hold a flat screen t.v. and the many shelves above will hold all kinds of goodies. I put the black paint on this afternoon and hope to finish it up tomorrow. How do you think this'll turn out? Here's the before pic:

You'll have to stay tuned for the after pic but I am hopefull it's going to look great! Isn't this a great way to REUSE and RECYCLE? Plus, I feel like I'll have a little bit of the history of our quaint downtown in my own home. How fun!

Speaking of fun, this has been a great day! Ty had his friend Alex sleepover last night so I made biscuits and gravy for them this morning.

Tyler is on the left and refused to cooperate with my picture taking (meaning refusing to smile and all the while complaining about how dumb this whole blogging thing is) but you get the idea. Alex is in the foreground and that's my Rob with the b-ball cap on his head! I always make specially shaped biscuits for the first go-round and today it was hearts. You wouldn't believe how many biscuits with sausage gravy those boys can eat. This did the opposite of REDUCING our waistlines but it was oh so yummy.

Julie and her son Josh came by today for a visit. I had picked up a Yankee Candle display for Julie also and she came to pick it up. Josh stayed home with my older son Matt and they played the Wii while Julie and I hit the area stores. We hit the jackpot at Marshall's HomeGoods but dang it, I forgot my camera. Well, Julie hit the jackpot, I was merely an innocent bystander. I did buy one cloth doll angel that I am going to work on for a bit and then I'll show you that, along with my RECYCLED entertainment center.

Rob and I hit the local nursery today looking for a tree to plant in the backyard. I have a couple of neighbors that I'd like to be shielded from and I think this will do the trick:

It's an Adirondack Crabapple and it will be beautiful, I think. The flowers in the nursery all looked so pretty but I resisted.
The first weekend it's even remotely warm in Michigan a ton of folks go out to buy plants. You have to be careful though because we often get another good frost or two before the end of May. We've had so much rain lately that the cloudy skies today felt downright sunny! Here's a pic from my front door of the rain we had a few days ago.

We have our guild meeting tomorrow. Julie and I will be going but Deb will be missing it this week because her DD has a dance recital. We'll miss you Deb but consider it an opportunity to save a few bucks. We never, ever leave a guild meeting without spending money..... not sure at all why that is but it "sucks the bucks" right out of you.

Have a great Sunday and a great week if I don't chat with you before then. Thank you so very much for all the sweet comments on my craft room. How 'bout showing us where you stitch, or paint or scrapbook or just plain craft!?

Peace,
Terri

I can't wait to see your recyled Yankee candle cabinet. How cool is that! Marshall/Home Goods store is my favorite outlet store of all. It has been warm here and people are out planting gardens but the rule is not until after Mother's Day or take the chances of frost.
Enjoyed seeing your family picture.

You got a fantastic deal on that wonderful Yankee candle cabinet. Can't wait to see it finished. What a great idea to make the biscuits heartshaped. I never thought of that.....

What a great idea for the Yankee candle display! Can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all done. I was looking at flowers tonight too, but I also resisted. Can't wait to get outside and play in the dirt! Well girly, only one week until LNO. Hope we have lots of fun that night. Talk to you soon, Dawn

This repainted cabinet sounds great, I'm very curious to see it in your next post.
Your PS Year looks great and so sweet all over one. A good idea to reduce the size of the piece.
I'm the same when it's getting warm outside. I spend much time in the garden reading so that my stitching time is reduced, too. But I don't mind as reading is just as important to me as stitching.

Oh wow Terri, that Yankee Candle cabinet. What a steal (oops, deal)! ;) It's wonderful and it will be gorgeous when you're done. Your PS WIP is so pretty (love it over one). Those biscuits look yummy, too. Dang it, now I'm hungry. :)

Love your Yankee candle display, I can't wait to see what you do with it.

I so understand the not getting to stitch feeling. I am spring cleaning, once I start I just work until it's done, usually 10 days or so of nothing but cleaning :-(. I just keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end.

Terri, that is a wonderful deal you got on that Yankee Candle Cabinet. Really kind of appropriate, all of the money and business you have put into the frame store over the years...glad you got it, and can't wait to see it redone!!

Lovely pic of the family at your special breakfast! You's a good mom!

I haven't gotten any flowers or plantings yet, but plan to before the end of May. One never knows when we are going to get some frost, anytime before that.

Great picture of the guys around the breakfast table! And it sounds like they loved your biscuits and gravy. And what a steal your Yankee Candle cabinet was and what a great entertainment system it will make.

What a fun post! Love the Yankee Candle display you scored! WOW! Can't wait to see how that comes out. Our entertainment system is also well past its prime, LOL!

Like Tanya I can't wait to see it too. I just love makeovers! The weather here in the U.K. has been good when it was supposed to rain all week it only rained for one day but it's supposed to start again tomorrow and we are off to a Bar-B-Que but our friend Jeff even barbeques in the rain so no worries there about no food. Still now news from PayPal about my money - they said I would know in 72 hours and it's been way more than that now. It's a holiday tomorrow here in the U.K. - it's May Day. Anyway hope your week is good. Lots of Love Patti xxx

Love your PS--it is so dainty and adorable. I admire your willingness to stitch over one like that on a whole piece. I think I'm a hero when I stitch a word over one. :P

Love the pic of the guys--and those Longaberger plates! ;)

Ha Terri - Loved your comment about my missing Guild and saving a few bucks! You've got that right! There is always something to buy. Did you come away with any goodies! LOL Hope you guys had a good time today. And that cabinet - what an excellent find! I see how it would be so perfect for a TV and displaying all sorts of things! Great deal too! When can you get anything for $25.00 these days - especially something like that! And Marshalls - that can be a dangerous place at times - but you can find stuff to fill your new entertainment cabinet. Can't wait to see your angel. And I have heard many things about your famous biscuits and sausage gravy - Nick always came home after a sleepover and raved about that meal! And I love your PS piece too - the bunny is adorable! See you (fingers crossed) Friday for GNO (and more reckless spending). LOL
